I went back to Canada this year for my Grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary celebration.
I don’t usually visit in the winter as it’s mightily cold! Typically, they had their worst snow storm in 50 years while I was there. The temperature as I left Canada including windchill was feeling like -36C! That’s the kind of temperature where skin will freeze within minutes; snot will freeze at around -20C or so 🙂 It’ll definitely be summer when I visit next.
Managed to catch up with friends and family, and eat lots of good food.
- Stuffed sea cucumber and duck feet
- Dumplings
- Sushi Lover
- Steak Poutine
- Pho good
- 9.5 lb Lobster
- Uncle Tetsu cheese cake
And what’s a trip without some new beers tried? As you can tell, I didn’t participate in dry January, but rather Tryanuary.
This trip I managed to try:
- From Spearhead Brewery:
- Rag Doll Ale – had this while in the Rag Doll Eatery (food was really good);
- Moroccan Brown Ale;
- From Blyth Cowbell Brewing:
- Cowbell Red Ale;
- From unknown breweries:
- Humpback Ale;
- Squirrel Ale;
- Octopus Ale – possibly from the Great Lakes Brewery;
- From Blood Brothers Brewery:
- Guilty Remnant;
- Balam;
- Unify or Die;
- Paradise Lost – Yuzu Gose – Sour Ale;
- Toad of Light;
- Blood Light;
- From Granite Brewery:
- Maggie Hale Brown Ale;
- From Ace Hill Beer Company:
- Ace Hill Pilsner.
We also managed to stumble across a winter craft beer festival while downtown but they closed as we got there. What kind of beer festival closes at 4:30pm???
- Flight of Guilty Remnant, Balam, and Unify or Die by Blood Brothers Brewery
- Maggie Hale Brown Ale from Granite Brewery
I also got to meet Loki the cat 🙂
Until next time Canada!
